Rennes Metro

The major construction project for a new metro line in Rennes makes use of the Mezzoteam collaboration platform.

Work began in 2013 with the new line due to enter into service by the end of 2020.
Rennes’ new metro line will be 14km long, include 15 stations and be used by 200,000 passengers per day.

Semtcar has been tasked by Rennes Métropole with running this project. Work on line b of the Rennes metro is being conducted as part of an investment programme in cities of the future (Investissements d’Avenir, Action Ville de Demain), with the Caisse des Dépôts – the investment arm of the French state – as lead operator of the “Ville de Demain” programme. The project is also being supported by the Brittany Region and the Ille et Vilaine Departmental Council.

At the end of 2010, a deal was agreed with Siemens SAS to provide trains derived from a new generation of automated light metro: CityVal.

In order to build the Rennes metro line b, major works have been undertaken, such as the digging of an 8.6 km-long deep-tunnel section, a 2.4 km-long cut-and-cover tunnel and the construction of a 2.4 km-long viaduct.

Environmental measures, based on geothermal energy production, have been deployed on this project. For example, four stations are equipped with heat transfer pipes. They will be used to recover energy from the soil to heat the buildings that will be constructed at ground level above the stations.

This new metro line will enable users to travel around the city more easily and efficiently.
