According to the BIM Barometer conducted by Infopro Digital’s research institute for Mezzoteam, the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling) has become essential for professionals in the construction sector: 73% of respondents have already adopted it in their projects. This adoption is widespread across all types of companies (63% of businesses with fewer than 50 employees have already worked with BIM) and applies to projects of all sizes.

However, while 71% of respondents use BIM during the design phase, its use in the operational phase remains emerging. Only 16% of respondents report using it during the operational phase, and 14% during the maintenance phase. Nevertheless, compatibility with connected objects is seen as a key future need, highlighting the importance of integrating digital technologies from the early stages of a construction or renovation project.

The barometer also reveals that there is still sometimes confusion between BIM and simple 3D modeling.

While visualization is an important component, the true potential of BIM lies in its ability to manage data and structure processes. The information—the “I” in BIM—is often underestimated.

BIM is seen as a key asset for competitiveness

62% of professionals believe that adopting BIM is essential to remain competitive and view it as a true performance tool. According to the barometer, BIM purchasing decisions are often made at the executive level to support business strategy. However, BIM still suffers from a lack of training, with only 50% of respondents having been trained in its use.

Finally, as digital solutions in construction continue to multiply, the barometer highlights the need for a single reference framework capable of centralizing data and ensuring compatibility with other systems to optimize project management. “An integrated and interoperable platform, combined with proper user support—particularly through training—will form the foundation for more efficient project management and successful asset operation,” adds Nicolas Delmas.
