Nantes University Hospital

In 2026, the new Nantes University Hospital will open its doors on the Île de Nantes, in the heart of the leading metropolis in western France. A truly transformative project for the region, it brings together patient care, education, and research on a single site to create a world-class university hospital ecosystem.

This new facility brings together:

• Short-stay services (medicine, surgery, and obstetrics) currently split between the Hôtel-Dieu and the Hôpital Nord Laennec
• Paramedical training institutes
• The Health Research Institute (IRS 2020), dedicated to research teams designated as "university hospital departments"

Designed to meet the challenges of the medicine of tomorrow, this new hospital aims to provide patients with optimal care and reception conditions, while offering professionals a modern, high-performance, and attractive work environment.

Open to the city and designed with a responsible approach, the project fully integrates the environmental and societal issues that are shaping the next generation of healthcare facilities.

The project has two major objectives:

• Strengthen the quality of care by consolidating hospital, academic, and research functions on a single site
• Develop a center of excellence dedicated to training, innovation, research, and health-related economic activities

A major milestone was reached in July 2015 with the signing of the project management contract involving Art&Build, Pargade Architectes, Artelia, and Signes Paysages, marking the official launch of the design phase.
