The creation of a third line for the Lausanne metro, connecting the Lausanne train station to La Blécherette, is using the Mezzoteam collaboration platform. This new metro line (m3) is a key part of the “Axes forts” project, the purpose of which is to develop efficient and innovative public transport systems within the Lausanne-Morges urban area.
The project is based on the success of line m2 of the metro, opened in 2008 and which has increased use of public transport in the area by around 16%. The fact that the number of passengers moving through Lausanne station is expected to double in the next twenty years has made it necessary to increase public transport capacity.
The technology used to create m3 will ensure interoperability with m2, equally guaranteeing synergy in terms of maintenance and operation of the lines. The 3.6km-long m3 line will feature seven underground stations, making it independent of adverse weather conditions caused by the substantial slope in the city and any road traffic congestion. It will help absorb and mitigate peak usage during rush hour. It is the most effective solution in terms of comfort, speed and quality of service.
