To improve safety and comfort for passengers, it was decided to modernise the ventilation and smoke extraction system of line A of the metro. Twelve ventilation shafts were fitted with new, more powerful and quieter fans, over a period of three years. The arrangements for evacuating people from tunnels and the procedures to be followed by emergency services in the tunnels were also improved.
The introduction of new VAL trains to boost services on both the A and B metro lines called for adaptation of the Basso Cambo and Borderouge maintenance sites.
Work lasted four years and was completed at the end of 2017.

Following the success of the A and B metro lines, it became necessary to improve the Jean Jaurès and Marengo-SNCF stations. Every day, more than 100,000 passengers come into and pass through Jean Jaurès station, which connects lines A and B. It is therefore the central hub of the Toulouse metro system. The layout of the platforms on line A have now been redesigned in order to facilitate the flow of passengers in these two stations. Changes to the layout of the Jean Jaurès station were finished in September 2014 and work on Marengo-SNCF was completed in August 2013.
