The Aix-Marseille-Provence Métropole selected the Mezzoteam collaboration platform as part of its project to extend line 3 of the Marseille tram network, connecting La Castellane estate in the north to the Residence de la Rouvière to the south of Marseille, taking in Saint-Exupéry high school, the Arenc district and Place Castellane.

Some 6.2 kilometres long (1.8km to the north and 4.4km to the south) and involving the creation of twelve new stations (three to the north and nine to the south), the extension of line 3 of the Marseille tram network is intended to ease congestion in the centre of Marseille by encouraging intermodality between the various modes of transport and the road network.

Line 3 of the “north-south” tram network between La Castellane and La Rouvière, which will enable users to go from Gèze to Belsunce in 13 minutes or from La Gaye to Belsunce in 21 minutes, will be delivered in two phases. The first phase of the project will begin in 2020. By 2023, work is expected to be completed on extending line 3 of the tram network between the Arenc and Capitaine Gèze stations in the north and between Place Castellane and the Sainte-Marguerite hospitals in the south. As regards phase two of the project, scheduled to go ahead between 2022 and 2025, it is intended to link La Castellane estate in the north of Marseille to the southernmost point of the city, at the Residence de la Rouvière.

The project also plans to create a park and ride facility and a mixed development superstructure on the Dromel Montfuron site that will include a maintenance centre and sidings. The site is expected to house up to 30 tram trains, i.e. the equivalent of the current depot at Saint-Pierre.
